Pain on nail beds during chemo
Years ago I had chemo (Adriamycin and Cytoxin).. All of my fingernails pulled away from the quick. I don’t recall what meds I used to get them to heal back to normal. That was 38 years ago and my nails still have numerous strange lines on them. Of course, everyone is different. Good luck!
I’ve been 2 years post chemo and still having trouble with my nails. Like the others, I did have pain with my nail beds, and lost most nails during chemo. Since then, I’ve slowly been growing them back out, but lots of ridges (in some cases, they go through the depth of the nail), and chipping (nail depth split into layers to stuff off). The nail difficulty was probably the biggest problem with my toes. I could wear gloves and be careful with my hands, but the pressure of walking, created a lot pain in my toes. I still have one toe nail that is buckled up in the center and very painful. I did have Knox gelatin at least once a day, and that seemed to have a positive effect.
Best of luck with yours
My dietician at my cancer center suggested a supplement for Nails, Hair and Skin to help with my nails that were damaged by chemo.
This supplement has helped my nails become stronger since the chemo,(1 year out). Check with your doctor to see if this could help you. My 2 big toe nails are the worst. Lost both nails to chemo, are growing back but very slowly and can have pain when wearing shoes.
God bless everyone fighting this cancer.
My nails were weak but are now growing back very hard and curling at the edges, the edges cut into the skin , causing my fingers to bleed. I have tried cutting the edges back after soaking them but it is very painful to touch anything with the affected fingers. I read on a website that it might be caused by a vitamin deficiency. My eyelashes have not grown back

Since beginning chemo my finger tips have begun splitting from dryness. It is painful to type or use my fingertips. I’ve been using clobetazol on my fingertips then bandaging them during the day to make sure the oinment stays in place. At night i eave them to the air. Has anyone else experienced this? If so what are you doing to help keep your fingertips skin from splitting? Thanks!
I am 10 years post double mastectomy and chemo, no radiation. My two big toes do hurt in shoes. My left toenail lifted and my podiatrist cut it all the way back. It has grown back but very rounded and it does hurt in some shoes. The other toes on my Feet are growing up and sideways! Not the prettiest feet, but at least they didn’t all fall off. Best of luck to you with your pain. The only thing that makes them feel better is when I take my shoes off after I get home from work and soak them in warm water.
